FROM THE BEACH TO THE BILLBOARDS
James was 18 the first time he came to Ibiza. He asked his boss at the shop for the time off and the answer was no — so he went anyway, and called in sick from outside Space. He couldn’t afford a hotel, so he slept on the beach. He was fired the week he got home. Worth it.
He came back every summer after that — £30 flights, begging for opening slots, playing for free anywhere on the island that would let him plug in. One year everything he owned was stolen from the back of a car: the gear, the laptop, even his passport. He maxed out a credit card on a new laptop and kept going.
In 2023 he got the call to play Hï Ibiza — the club that stands where Space stood. The first club he ever set foot in on this island is the one that ended up putting his name on the wall.
Now his face is on the billboards on the road into Playa d’en Bossa, and every Wednesday, all summer long, he holds the room at the world’s number one club.
