Biography
British DJ and producer, and one of dance music’s most technical performers.
James Hype is a British DJ and record producer, regarded as one of the most technically gifted DJs of his generation. He is known worldwide for pairing original house and tech house records with a fast, trick-heavy live style: live edits, mashups, loops and rapid mixing that treat the decks as instruments rather than playback devices. Raised on the Wirral in the north west of England, he broke through with the 2017 single “More Than Friends” and reached a global audience with the multi-platinum hit “Ferrari”.
At its core, the James Hype brand is about making the extraordinary feel possible: practise your craft, make your own opportunities, and prove what you can become through action rather than waiting for permission.
James Hype’s story started with obsession, not access. He got his first set of decks, second-hand vinyl turntables, for his 15th birthday, and by 16 was DJing friends’ birthday parties. At 18 he was handing out his own CDs around Liverpool, talking his way into a Tuesday-night club slot and learning the craft one room at a time.
The early years were unglamorous: student nights, small venues, late nights, rejection and repetition. But they built the foundation of everything that followed: the belief that you don’t wait to be chosen, you build enough skill and proof that you can’t be ignored. Ibiza became part of that story long before the headline stages; he kept showing up on the island, through every setback, until he became part of its top billing. Years on the UK circuit sharpened the rapid, surgical mixing style that became his signature, and his productions carried that same energy onto dancefloors and charts worldwide.
The point of the story isn’t “look what I have.” It’s “look what is possible.”
James Hype is known for technical DJing and live performance routines, high-energy house and tech house music, fast mixing, live edits and mashups, and original, club-focused records. More than anything he is known for treating DJing as a craft that demands practice, training and discipline, and for showing the work behind the performance, the preparation and skill most DJs keep out of sight.
James Hype’s music lives in house, tech house and modern dance music. It is built for the dancefloor, but the best records are never just functional club tools. They start from a simple, memorable idea: a vocal hook, a feeling, a phrase people immediately understand. He is both DJ and producer, and the two feed each other. Records are tested and reshaped in the booth in front of real crowds.
His breakthrough, “More Than Friends” (2017), reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart and was certified platinum. “Ferrari” (2022), released with vocalist Miggy Dela Rosa, became a defining dance record of the decade: number one in the Netherlands, Italy and Belgium, a UK Top 10 hit, multi-platinum, and past a billion streams. Alongside his own singles he is one of dance music’s most in-demand remixers. The full catalogue, with up-to-date streaming figures, is on the music page.
A James Hype show is built on energy, technical ability and crowd connection, with the decks used as instruments, layering, cutting, looping and extending vocals to build moments in real time. He approaches DJing like a sport: the standout moments on stage are backed by practice, tested transitions and trained timing.
He headlines festivals and clubs worldwide, co-hosts the “Our House” residency at Hï Ibiza with MEDUZA across the Ibiza season, and holds a Las Vegas residency at Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas. He performs on a four-deck Pioneer setup. Confirmed dates and tickets are on the tour page.
A central idea in the James Hype brand is Real DJing: the belief that DJing is still a craft worth practising. It is not about gatekeeping or claiming one DJ is better than another. It is about respecting the music, learning the tools, reading the room, taking risks and holding yourself to a higher standard every time you step behind the decks. Real DJing is inclusive, because the standard is not fame or equipment but effort, intention and growth.
Real DJing isn’t about being better than someone else. It’s about getting better than your previous self.
Stereohype is the record label and creative ecosystem founded by James Hype. It is built to release club-focused dance music, support emerging talent, and create a direct connection between artists, DJs and fans. It is the platform around the wider movement.
