McDonald's never replied either

JAMES HYPE
James Hype — McDonald's never replied either

McDonald's ignoring my job application accidentally prepared me for the music industry.

When I was 17 I applied for a job there and they never replied. So I kept applying to other shops and got the same thing. I didn't get rejection. I just got no response.

At the time I was a bit disappointed, and I wondered what I'd done wrong.

But years later I started sending music to record labels, to DJs, to promoters — and guess what? None of those people replied either.

By then, being ignored didn't feel like a problem. It just felt normal.

So I kept sending emails. Kept sending demos. Kept following up. And eventually some people did reply. Some records got signed. Some of those conversations actually led to gigs.

So McDonald's accidentally taught me one of the most useful things I've ever learned. No reply doesn't always mean no. And even if it does mean no, it never means stop.

What this actually means

Silence is not a verdict. Most of the time no one is rejecting you — they just haven't got to you yet, and the only thing that turns silence into a yes is still being there when they do.

What to do today

Reading about it doesn't make you better. These do.
