Sometimes, to succeed, you've just got to survive.
Ferrari sat on my hard drive for three years before anyone heard it.
Every new version I made, I'd send straight to the label. And the reaction was always dead. “Whatever.” Or sometimes they just wouldn't reply at all. After a while you start to question yourself — like, maybe it's me who's wrong.
But I couldn't let it go. So I kept changing the record, making version after version after version.
Then one night I was in the studio on my own and I thought, I'm going to make a version of Ferrari just for my own DJ sets. No pressure. Not trying to make a hit, not trying to make it for radio. Just for me.
And that's the version you now know as Ferrari.
So sometimes, in order to succeed, you've just got to survive. You've just got to keep going long enough for the rest of the world to catch up to the vision you saw all along.
